About This Novel
The surging Jialing River flows day and night among the high mountains in the mountainous areas of northern Sichuan. When it is calm, it is like a gentle virgin, walking slowly through the flat and soothing wilderness; when it is angry, it runs wildly, and its huge roar echoes in the cliffs and valleys all day long, like a roaring lion. The water of the Jialing River nourishes the green bamboo forests on both sides of the river, the green pines and cypresses, and the apricot blossoms that bloom every year on both sides of the river. It also nourishes the simple mountain people who live on one side of the river and on the other. There is a mountain in the upper reaches of the Jialing River called Phoenix Mountain. Fenghuang Mountain is not high and the area is not large, but it is famous because of the tomb of Zhang Xianzhong on the mountain. When I was a child, Phoenix Mountain had not yet been developed as a tourist attraction, and it remained silent. At that time, most of the adults were illiterate, regardless of their official positions, smart or stupid, and farmers were engaged in politics regardless of whether they were farming or farming, leaving the children unattended.
