Snow on the Loess Plain
by Peng Xingkai
About This Novel
My father was still talking about the snow before he died. My father said that the snow was so heavy that he had never seen such heavy snow in his whole life. My father said that the snow was not large flakes like goose feathers, nor was it fine powder like white flour. The snow was a bit like date flowers, small and round, falling from the sky in dense masses, and in the blink of an eye the ground was covered with white, and it lasted for two days and two nights. Many houses were crushed, many branches were broken, and the birds were seen falling from the trees in the sky because they had no food to eat. His father said that as long as he closed his eyes, the snowflakes from that day would float in front of his eyes, taking away his soul. When my father talked about the snow, his soul really seemed to be out of its shell, with a look of solemnity and pain on his face.
