About This Novel
This is the latest novel by writer Sun Huifen. The story of the first volume took place in 1992. In a village called Xiaoyugou in the northern mountainous area of southern Liaoning, Tang Lisheng, a migrant worker who was very ambitious and had never married a wife in his thirties, suddenly brought a woman named Leng Xiaohuan home from the city to get married. Because his brother occupied the house and refused to let her in, he took his daughter-in-law to her cousin Tang Li's house. But three months after getting married, something unfortunate happened. Tang Lisheng came home in the middle of the night and found his wife and cousin in the shed of the carpenter's shop. He drank pesticide in excitement and was taken home to wait for death after being rescued in the hospital for half a month. The story focuses on and presents the emotional collapse and human entanglement experienced by the three people in three days. The story in the second volume tells the story of Tang Lifu and Leng Xiaohuan, who were once deeply in love but had experienced moral trials and conscience questioning after Tang Lisheng's death. They walked out of the dark hut and faced the long days and boundless countryside and cities. How they were exposed to the rolling torrent in the years when rural urbanization was advancing by leaps and bounds. This is a rural-themed novel that starts from people's moral dilemmas and spiritual dilemmas and explores how human spiritual transcendence occurs. The work describes in detail and in-depth how farmers with "clean souls" in rural China complete their spiritual salvation in the process of urbanization and soul torture.
