About This Novel

This book is newly revised in 2020 by Zhang Peifen, a senior researcher on Hesse. He wrote it again in his 90s to pay tribute to Hesse's divinity and poetry. This is a fable novel that brings people closer to themselves. It tells the story of Siddhartha, who was born as a Brahmin and abandoned everything to find himself: he met Kamala, a famous prostitute in the city, and began to pursue extreme lust, fame and fortune until he got tired of everything. He left the world behind again, determined to end his life, and finally found a way to integrate into himself by the river. "This is not a story about Buddha, but a life that thousands of ordinary people go through."
