About This Novel

"Intermission" tells a story that happened on a June day in 1939 in a village in central England with a history of more than 500 years, showing a picture of rural life. The author uses the method of polyphonic novels to set up two narrative threads. One mainly tells the story of the family of squire Bartholomew Oliver, and the other tells the story of Ms. Latrobe guiding the villagers to perform an open-air historical drama. These two clues are sometimes parallel and sometimes cross, forming an intricate picture.
