The work of Nobel Prize winner Kawabata Yasunari is an ukiyo-e depicting all living things in Asakusa. "Asakusa Nine Palace Birds" collects three Asakusa-related novellas "Rainbow", "Asakusa Nine Palace Birds" and "Asakusa Sisters" written by Kawabata Yasunari in the 1930s. As the earliest bustling city in Edo, Asakusa is a prosperous and lively public entertainment area in Tokyo. Kawabata Yasunari came to Tokyo from his hometown in 1917, and initially settled in Asakusa. Since then, he created a series of works with Asakusa as the background, depicting ukiyo-e paintings depicting all living things in Asakusa. Most of the characters who appear in the novel are those at the bottom of society. They are the dancers in the sketch drama who are swept away by the winds of fate, and are precocious and coquettish mixed with childish innocence in "The Rainbow". They are the idle but still adhering to their own rules in the world of "The Asakusa Birds". A Fei is also the singing girl in "Asakusa Sisters" who walks the streets with a shamisen and protects each other in suffering... Kawabata Yasunari observes and reproduces their dreams and love, innocence and evil, the pain of life and the yearning for beauty with lyrical eyes.
