About This Novel
"The Idiot" is one of the important works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the great Russian writer of the 19th century. The novel describes Nastasya, a beautiful woman from a noble family in the 1860s who has been ravaged by the landowner Totsky for many years. Later, Totsky was willing to pay a large sum of money to marry her to the despicable Ganya. At the heroine's birthday party, the young Duke Myshkin, who was regarded as an idiot by people, suddenly appeared and was willing to marry Nastasya unconditionally, which moved her deeply. On the day of her upcoming wedding to the Duke, although Nastasya loved the Duke deeply, she ran away with the playboy Rogozhin and was eventually killed by Rogozhin. Dostoevsky was good at psychological analysis, especially revealing inner divisions. His shocking descriptions of human physical and mental suffering are unmatched by other writers. His novels are highly dramatic and the plot develops quickly. The ensuing catastrophic events are often accompanied by complex and intense psychological struggles and painful spiritual crises.
