About This Novel

It tells a love story that took place in the small town of Byers in southern Germany before World War I. The protagonist of the novel, Karl Bruno, was an assistant to Professor Heidemann at Berlin Theological Seminary. In June 1912, he published the novel "The Sorrow of the Prophets", which caused quite a stir in Berlin. He eventually resigned from his job at the seminary and returned to his hometown of Byers, a small town on the edge of the Black Forest in southern Baden-Württemberg after more than five years. In his memory, there were endless rapeseed flowers and the fragrance of lavender in July... However, his return was destined to be a curse.
