Death of Artemio Kroos
by O
About This Novel
The Mexican version of "Citizen Kane" is an x-ray of Mexico's contemporary history, a milestone that kicked off the "Latin American literary explosion". In April 1959, Mexican newspaper tycoon Artemio suddenly fainted in his office after returning from a business trip in Hermosillo. When he woke up again, he found himself lying on the bed in a mansion, waiting for death. The memories of his shameful life and his rotting body are the only things left of him. His wife and daughter who were guarding the sickbed didn't care about his life or death, they just wanted to get his will. Artemio, who was in a daze, allowed his thoughts to shuttle between the present and the past, indulged in imagination and nightmares, and important moments in his life appeared in his mind.
