Dream Palace
About This Novel
With the magical atmosphere of García Márquez, the contrast of light and weight like Milan Kundera, and the keen insight of Kafka, this is the representative work of Kadare, one of the writers with high aspirations for winning the Nobel Prize. The author won the first Booker International Prize for Literature, the Prince of Asturias Prize, and the Jerusalem Prize for Literature. Who is to say that what we see with our own eyes has not been distorted? Who is to say that everything depicted here is not the essence of things? The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire founded the Dream Palace, which was in charge of sleep and dreams. It specifically collected people's dreams, classified, screened, analyzed, reviewed and processed them. Once any signs of a threat to the monarchy were found, all measures were immediately taken to suppress them. The story begins when a young man from a prominent family, Mark Alem, enters the Dream Palace. His family has produced five Albanian prime ministers, as well as countless generals and important ministers. Because of the importance of the Dream Palace, he was assigned to work in it by his high-ranking uncle, and directly entered the important screening department, and was soon transferred to the analysis department. He deals with all kinds of dreams every day. One day, he encountered the same dream twice. As a result, his handling of the dream changed the fate of him and his family drastically.
