In the Name of Birds and Beasts
by Sun Pin
About This Novel
"In the Name of Birds and Beasts" is Sun Pin's latest collection of mountain and forest novels. It is composed of three interrelated novellas, all of which tell suspenseful "searching" stories. "The Rider on the White Horse" is looking for the developer of the villa, "In the Name of Birds and Beasts" is looking for a fugitive, and "Tianwu Ruins" is looking for hidden ancient cultural relics. The biggest protagonist throughout these three novels is actually the mountains and forests the characters travel through. Sun Pin spends a lot of space patiently describing the animals, plants, cultural relics in the mountains and forests, as well as its ecological sceneries in different seasons, as vast as the evolution of the sea and as small as a subtle breath. The entire mountain forest exudes a bright, ferocious, silent and mysterious atmosphere. The various people "I" met during my search were like pieces of a puzzle. Their bits and pieces of narratives and different encounters pieced together the changes that time has brought to this mountain forest. The development of the commercial economy has gradually changed the natural and human ecology of the entire mountain forest through changes in people. The footsteps and sounds of people coming and going are left behind in every corner of the mountain forest and have become secrets. In the "I" visit to these hidden corners, the novel realizes the transfer from individuals to all living beings, and also accommodates richer history and reality.
