About This Novel
On March 15, 1944, it began to rain heavily in Tokyo in the afternoon. After nightfall, the mist and rain were misty, and the whole of Tokyo seemed to be mysteriously lurching somewhere. In such weather, the powerful American B-29 strategic bombers, known as the Sky Fortress, will not bomb again, but this internationally famous metropolis really seems to be shrinking. Most of the row upon row of luxury buildings were dimly lit, and the whole of Tokyo seemed to be dressed in mourning clothes. The new Prime Minister Koiso Kuniaki stood in front of the large floor-to-ceiling window in his large study room, motionless, as if an iron nail was stuck on the floor.
