About This Novel
In Long Island, New York, in the unpredictable 1960s, a young boy laments that summer is coming to an end and sixth grade is approaching. My father is busy with work and my mother drinks alcohol all day long. He and his brother Jim built a "White Rock Town" modeled on their community out of cardboard in their humble basement, even making clay figurines of friends and neighbors. But subsequent events add a darker dimension to the children's nightly play: disappearances, deaths and ghost sightings, a sinister man prowling the neighborhood in a white car after dark... The strangest thing is that these disturbing events all seem to correspond directly to sister Mary's changes in the miniature town in the basement.
