About This Novel
The original work of "The Taste of Sand", the opening film of the 68th Cannes Film Festival, won the top prize of the French "Bunkuben Reader Award" in 2017, and the winning work of the French Senon Literary Award in 2019. The healing novella by contemporary Japanese writer Dorian Sukegawa shows people's plight and hope, as well as the light of humanity. Using the Japanese confection Dorayaki as an image, it tells a touching story of getting out of the frustration and trough of life. The story takes place in a Dorayaki specialty store called "Dorayaki". The protagonist Sentaro is the manager of this store, and Wakana, a middle school girl who comes from a single-parent family and cannot feel the care, and Tokunaga, an old woman who has been isolated from the world for a long time. After experiencing a series of disturbances and difficulties in life, the three of them have deeply integrated into each other's lives, and at the same time changed each other's future lives.
