About This Novel
"One pot of clear soup, bright and hot, can wash away all the sorrows in the world." The story tells about the past and present life of old Beijing hot pot, but it also includes life and death, love and hatred. In 1898 AD, a long-standing feud was tied to death in Shangjiayingzi, Hejian Prefecture, Zhili. The Shang family decided by drawing lots to send young Jusheng to the palace to be a eunuch. With the help of his friends Muchengfu and Suqier, Jusheng escaped, and his cousin Juhong was castrated and sent to the top of the palace. Ju Sheng helped chef Xia Delin start the "Jinding Shabu Shabu" in Beijing. Juhong then lived in the Forbidden City with his late emperor Puyi. "Dashunfang" was also squeezed out by Shang Juhong. Jusheng used prostitutes to collect debts, spent money to support Qingqing, opened a banquet, and a series of puzzling methods to keep "Dashunfang" alive. Juhong, who was bent on revenge, went bankrupt and ended up in poverty. Fighting to the death seems so pathetic and ridiculous. The world is full of vicissitudes, only true love is valuable.
