About This Novel

"The Flower of Evil" is one of the four major condemnation novels in the late Qing Dynasty. The author Zeng Pu uses the story of the marriage life of the number one scholar Jin Wenqing (alluding to Hong Jun) and the famous prostitute Fu Caiyun (alluding to Zhao Caiyun) as the main plot line, and cuts and refines the profiles of important historical events in the past thirty years and related anecdotes into a chapter. It can quite reflect the political and cultural changes in the specific historical stage from the middle period of Tongzhi in the late Qing Dynasty to the late period of Guangxu period. Lu Xun praised it for its "ingenious structure and outstanding literary talent", which shows that it has a high artistic level.
