Most of the book is long and verbose, so the characters are clearly portrayed. Joey, Jessica, Walter, and Patty, like Joey and Patty, made profound mistakes and grew up, and they also endured a lot. Walter and Jessica are more disciplined and more in line with the mainstream values of society, but they are not very happy either. I still like the ending very much. After going through enough things, Patty recognized her parents, eased her relationship with her sisters, and finally stayed with Walter again...
