"The Lost Time" is a novel published in 2023 by the famous Irish writer Sebastian Barry. The novel takes Tom Kettle's retirement life as the main line and shows his life full of twists and turns. After retirement, Tom was enjoying the tranquility at Dorkey's residence, but his tranquility was broken by a request from two police detectives to investigate an old case involving a priest's crime in the past, in which he was involved. At the same time, he also encountered various problems from his neighbors, such as Mr. Tomelty's secret, Miss McNulty's dilemma, etc. During these experiences, Tom constantly recalled the past with his wife Joan and their children, and after experiencing inner struggles, he finally came to help when faced with the danger of Miss McNulty's son. Through these plots, the story shows human nature, sin, redemption and the impermanence of life.
