About This Novel

The author Rick Hansen is a native of Williams Lake, Canada. He has loved hiking since he was a child and is good at sports. When he was 15 years old, he suffered a high paraplegia due to a car accident. With his strong will, he actively participated in wheelchair sports for people with disabilities and won 19 international wheelchair championships, including three world championships. At the age of 28, he was inspired by Terry Fox, a famous Canadian disabled hero, and decided to travel around the world in a wheelchair for a week to raise funds for the International Cord Surgery Research Institute (ICORD). He set off from Vancouver on March 20, 1985, passing through 34 countries and covering 40,000 kilometers. He completed his global trip on May 22, 1987, raising 48 million Canadian dollars for charity. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, he won the honor of being the last leg of the torch relay as Canada's greatest athlete. This book records in detail the author's entire process of injury, treatment, hesitation, and rise in literary style, reflecting the valuable spirit and noble qualities of disabled people's self-esteem, self-improvement, courage to realize self-worth, and pursuit of contribution to society.
