It took me a long time to finish reading this book. I was very impressed when I saw less than half of it. Russian literature is really amazing. This is a rich and colorful picture scroll. The author just clumsily wielded a big ax and cut it one by one, but he managed to create such a rich work. When I read Anna Karenina before, I was amazed at how a huge novel with so many characters could be written. This book is similar, there must be hundreds of characters in it. In Chinese literature, Dream of Red Mansions is probably the only one
This is an outstanding work of socialist realism. It mainly describes the turbulent life of the Cossacks in the Don River region during these ten years, reflecting the customs, social changes, and major historical events in this region. His complex experience has made him a very dazzling figure in the gallery of world literary figures.
Second reading. I understand it much more deeply than when I first read it. Russian modern literature can be said to be the pinnacle of world literature! "Don" is so great! The long descriptions of the sky and grasslands, the descriptions of the purple morning mist, the smell of the soil, the various sounds, and the descriptions of hundreds of characters in the entire changing and turbulent historical period make the entire article a magnificent and dense picture! Can a twenty-one-year-old writer write such a long work, experience so many kinds of people and experience this historical period? I doubt it. The most outstanding realistic long-form works of Russian literature or world literature can be said to be this book, Tolstoy's two works and Gorky's "Childhood" and "In the World", right? Even the works of writers such as Balzac are not far behind in comparison. The common lyrics in "Don" and Gorky's trilogy also make the article shine with endless beauty and brilliance. Cossacks have also become the brightest stars in Russian literature.
A large battle scene, but the last two chapters still brought me to tears.

European and American double standards
With such a great masterpiece, are European and American countries now banning its reading? The so-called literature without borders is a joke! The classic double standards of Europe and the United States, is this what Western countries call liberal democracy? Ha ha.
An outstanding work of socialist realism, with the background from World War I to the Soviet Civil War, it describes the turbulent life of the Cossacks in the Don River region during these ten years. The protagonist Grigory has become a very dazzling figure in the gallery of world literary figures because of his bumpy and complicated experiences.
A personal epic life is also an ant-like life. How could it not bring tears to your eyes if you had the misfortune to know someone's entire life?
So well written
It writes about people's lives during those turbulent years, their yearning for a better life, their weariness with war, and their hope for peace from multiple angles.
Natural talent is important, but objective environment and personal experience are indispensable soil for his growth. Sholokhov's life experience is rare. His life is a life of hardships and twists and turns, and a life of overcoming countless dangers of life and death.
