A Thousand Splendid Suns

About This Novel
"A Thousand Splendid Suns" is called the female version of "The Kite Runner". Hosseini once again used the war in Afghanistan as the background, spanning thirty years in time and space, and used delicate and touching brushwork to depict the hopes, love, dreams and losses of Afghan women struggling under the old system in the new era. Mariam, an illegitimate daughter, waited patiently at the door of her father's house. When she returned home, she saw her mother who had hanged herself out of despair. It was her fifteenth birthday, and her childhood came to an abrupt end. Mariam was later arranged by her father to marry Rashid, a shoemaker in his forties in Kabul. She suffered several miscarriages and was ultimately unable to have children and lived under the shadow of domestic violence for a long time.

Maybe it resonates more with women. I have not yet become a mother, and I have not yet wanted to have a child. Seeing Mariam approach Azizah for the first time actually gave me the urge to try to be a mother. When Mariam and Laila escaped for the first time, I wished they had succeeded like this, but I couldn't bear to watch the ending. Seeing the happy life of Laila and Tariq, I wish Mariam would be involved. I cried when I read Jalil's letter. Has this man whom I don't want to forgive even after reading the letter been forgiven by Mariam? Or actually Mariam and I have already forgiven him. I have read the author's three novels in a row, and each time I read the time closer to my era, I was shocked and moved. In 2000, when I was enjoying a comfortable life, something like this happened in faraway Afghanistan, which made me infinitely grateful for the peace that the country I lived in enjoyed.
Watched it twice
I clearly remember that on the day when the Taliban in Afghanistan destroyed the Giant Buddha, I, like all the happy Chinese children, sat in front of the evening news and ate with my parents. When I read this book today, I suddenly realized that at that moment, in a strange country far away, there were two fictional women and thousands of real women suffering. Because the scenes laid out in the text were so realistic, the women's faces were so clear, and the suffering was written in such detail, I was so moved that I couldn't get rid of the artistic conception of this book from my mind while reading it these days.
This is the second time I've watched it
Rereading it again, the author allowed me to see a different Afghanistan. In China, as a woman, I feel lucky and proud that I can still study and live freely. Makes me feel sorry for Afghan women and may there be peace in the world.
After reading this book many years later, I am still shocked. I hope the world will be gentle to all kind people.
No matter how hard life is, there will be people in the world who work harder than you. They suffer grief and humiliation that you can't imagine, but they still find love in their new life. They comfort each other, live strong, long for warmth, and give warmth to others.
It was the first time I spent a whole day reading a book in one sitting
Laila was lucky and unfortunate, Mariam had a miserable life, but she finally "gave love and received love" in the last period of her life. The lives of these two women are a microcosm of the lives of thousands of Afghan women, which is sad but touching. The author's writing is profound and makes people want to put it down.
If Mariam had not asked for her father that night, everything would have been fine, and if she had not made that request, Nana would not have killed herself. Butterfly effect, but we can never predict the next second, and we can never change it.
At first, I simply thought that Mariam had found a husband who loved her and had a good home. In fact, what her husband expected and liked was the child in her belly. To be precise, it should be a son.
A heart-wrenching record of thirty years of Afghanistan's history, a moving story about family, friendship, faith and self-redemption. About unforgivable times, impossible friendships, and indestructible love. Although life is full of pain and bitterness, one can see the sunshine of hope in every sad episode. Behind every dusty face there is a soul.
