To be honest, I haven't finished watching "The Unworthy of the World" yet. I only watched the beginning part, which is the part where "I" was with a widow. When I first started reading, I was attracted by the first paragraph, a photo. Next is the person in the photo. Generally speaking, for me personally, I think this novel is very depressing to read, but it is also immersive. The article says that everyone wears a fake smile every day.
