About This Novel
"The Scholar's Watch" is composed of three independent but related novels. The scene is located in "Shaoshuigou", a rural settlement in the old era. The story develops around local characters living in "Shaoshuigou" such as Xiucai, Takeo, Huo Yanzai, Kong Maoyangzai, and Wu Xilang. The scholar who insists on delivering letters to distant places, Kong Maoyangzi who leads many beggars, Wu Xilang who can change time... A large number of dialects and local elements are spread throughout the book, allowing us to see how Yuan Zhesheng created novel and different local novels; the in-depth description of time everywhere also allows us to discover how Yuan Zhesheng showed many subjective and complex aspects in the objective and absolute nature of time.
