In the late Ming Dynasty, Feng Menglong compiled "Yu Shi Ming Yan", formerly known as "Ancient and Modern Novels", which is a collection of short stories in vernacular. It contains 40 articles, most of which are old scripts from the Song and Yuan Dynasties, a few are from Ming Dynasty scripts, and some are polished and processed by the Ming Dynasty's old works from the Song and Yuan Dynasties. The novels are mostly based on real life, with themes covering love, marriage, friendship, etc., Showing various aspects of social life at that time. This book was edited and annotated by Mr. Xu Zhengyang in the late 1950s. It has been circulated for more than half a century and is recognized by the academic community as the final version.
