Human Shackles
About This Novel
"The Shackles of Humanity" is Maugham's autobiographical classic work, and it is also considered to be an important masterpiece that is second to none and widely circulated. Together with "The Moon and Sixpence", "The Veil" and "The Blade", it laid the foundation of Maugham's "story master" and his unique position in literary history. The story is based on Maugham's personal experience, describing the complete process of the disabled protagonist Philip from being an orphan to growing up, including family, love, friendship, campus, art, and ideals. Amidst the many shackles, he struggled to find freedom and found it rare, and finally discovered that this is the true face of human nature. Can we get rid of the shackles of human nature? What is growing up and what is maturity? The answer is floating in the wind, with laughter and tears.

All these people are insignificant people. They all had their own dreams when they were young and worked hard for their ideals. However, in the end they died silently, leaving behind a pile of bones and no impact on the world. Perhaps this is Maugham's true experience, the stable life he hopes to live after many ideal pursuits and failures.

Everyone has flaws, physical or psychological. This makes us have low self-esteem and long for recognition when we are young, but also doubt the kindness we occasionally receive, and then this kind of contradiction will accompany us as we grow up. In the process of slowly getting to know society, we want to try our best to get rid of it and pursue the perfection deep in our hearts. However, all the beauty is only in life itself, pain and joy, what you pursue are all missing in childhood.
The story is so long... The time is so short
shackles of life
In fact, most of our unhappy lives are created by ourselves. People are always willing to create shackles and trap themselves. When you get stuck in life, you might as well let it go first, put yourself out of it, and look at it from an outsider's perspective. In fact, it's just that, it's not a big deal. When you step out, you will find that you have gained happiness and new life.
Shackles and freedom
I hope you can all lower your head to pick up coins, look up at the moon, and have a face like a peach blossom, blooming to its fullest. The shackles of human nature are shackles of the soul and a protective measure. Freedom is the most fundamental pursuit of life and the most dangerous abyss.
Maugham's most famous work is probably The Moon and Sixpence. I haven't seen this one.
I am very lucky to be born as a human being! Within the shackles is yourself!
I haven't read it yet, I'll leave a comment after I finish it.
Wonderful storyline
A true classic
With the author's writing style and plot, the mood of uneasiness and anxiety rises and falls. The personality of each character is described in the most realistic and realistic way. The beautiful scenery, cities, labor, and poverty are all drawn in a very profound way like a map, guiding readers to appreciate and explore! Great!!
