About This Novel
This novel tells the story of a Chinese mother's miserable and mottled life. This little woman from southern Liaoning resolutely gave up the pension benefits of the director's wife during the three difficult years and took her children to marry into a dwarf family at the foot of Weihu Mountain. Soon she was abandoned by her dwarf husband, and then she adopted a husband and adopted a son. She lived with her third husband for nearly twenty years. After her husband unfortunately died of illness, her mother took her disabled children and widows to the city and finally supported them to a better life. However, she herself became ill from overwork and died soon. In the end, not only did the mother achieve self-salvation of her soul, but her children also found the meaning of life in the midst of deep suffering. The mother's tenacity and courage, her optimism in suffering, and the sincerity and warmth in her character deeply affected her children, making them learn to be grateful, learn the wisdom of survival, learn to sublimate suffering, and learn to face life head-on.
