About This Novel

"Hesse Selections" includes five masterpieces from different periods by Hermann Hesse, winner of the 1946 Nobel Prize for Literature: "Under the Wheel", "Demian: The Wandering Boyhood", "Siddhartha", "Steppenwolf" and "Narcissus and Goldmund". The story of "Siddhartha" begins with the awakening of young Siddhartha's self-awareness. He rebelled from his family and began a tortuous life in search of his true self. Having experienced different thoughts, the temptations of love, power, and wealth, and the loss of the one he loved, Siddhartha realized his own unique wisdom of life from the ever-flowing river and from his life of ferrying people across in a boat.
