The advocate of the ancient prose movement in the Tang Dynasty was revered as the head of the "Eight Great Masters of Tang and Song Dynasties". Together with Liu Zongyuan, he was called "Han Liu", and was known as "The Great Master of Articles" and "The Wen Zong of a Hundred Generations".
