About This Novel

The novel takes as its main line the family story of the last two generations of chieftains Wei Songyuan and Wei Caiwen, father and son, in a certain place in Guangxi. It reflects the rise, fall and decline of the feudal chieftain system. After extensive monograph research and several field interviews, the author has written a tragic elegy about the last chieftain of the Zhuang ethnic group, trying to reflect the decline of the entire chieftain system from the perspective of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi and even all ethnic minority areas that once implemented the chieftain system.
