About This Novel
Thomas Pynchon is a contemporary American literary eccentric, with a secretive background and eccentric writing style. "Auction Lot 49" is the most story-telling and easiest to read among Pynchon's many novels. It is called "the best book about Pynchon" by Pynchon enthusiasts. The protagonist Oedipa discovers a large number of stamps in her ex-boyfriend's inheritance, which seem to hint at some kind of secret. For this reason, she searched and investigated everywhere, and slowly she didn't know whether she had really discovered something or whether she had fallen into an illusion. Could it be that everything was just a huge prank set by the deceased for her? All possible insiders mysteriously disappear as she approaches. The stamps were eventually put up for auction, and it was said that a never-before-seen person would bid on them. She sat in the auction hall, waiting for the mysterious figure to arrive...
