About This Novel

Carmen (CARMEN, also translated as "Carmen"), created in 1845, is Mérimée's most representative work. Many theatrical works were adapted from it, including Bizet's famous opera "Carmen". Carmen tells the story of a free-spirited gypsy girl, Carmen, who engages in smuggling adventures. She seduced soldiers, made them fall in love, abandoned her lover, and was eventually expelled from the army to join the smuggling ranks. Later, Carmen fell in love with a bullfighter again, and the conflict with the soldier became increasingly fierce, and he eventually died under the soldier's sword. The image of "Carman" has also become a typical example in the history of Western literature.
