The Angel on the Second Road (small Literature·pocket Library)
by Li Er
About This Novel
In "The Angel on the Second Street", Zhang Qi's abnormal life after he was released from prison made him nervous and at a loss. He could not find anything meaningful and interesting to do, so he could only use chaotic words and actions to cover up his inner insecurity; in "The Lyrical Age", associate professor Yuan Mei and lecturer Zhang Liang put their energy and "talent" into hooks. In fighting each other, playing tricks on students, they completely lost the sense of morality and responsibility that intellectuals should have, and drifted with the tide in the chaotic mediocre life... Li Er's novels take the daily life of intellectuals as their themes, and thoroughly describe the living conditions of intellectuals who only have knowledge, but appear incompetent and powerless at every turn. Li Er, one of the most important representative writers after Chinese avant-garde literature, has always adhered to the stance of intellectual writing. He is the author of the novels "Coloratura" and "Cherrys on the Pomegranate Tree", and short and medium story collections "The Poetics of the Afternoon", "The Talking Mute", "Out of the Mirror", etc. When German Chancellor Merkel visited China, she gave the German version of the book "Cherrys on the Pomegranate Tree" to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The book was called "worthy of all the honors it has received" by the Prussian Zeitung.

The wonderful writing depicts the natural atmosphere of ordinary society. Everything is so simple and natural, but the story has a hint of helplessness in life in the humor. Only after reading it can you truly understand its profound meaning.
An intellectual who is useful but has nowhere to display his intellectual ambitions has completely lost his original responsibility and morality when facing the "darkness" of life. He can only drift with the crowd and lose himself in this "darkness". Everything is so ridiculous and sad!
