About This Novel
After passing Shanhaiguan, we arrived at the fat and oily Kanto. Zhang Wangchao and Wu Ruikun gasped for a while while looking at the huge plaque on the gate building of Shanhaiguan City that read "The First Pass in the World", and then suddenly jumped and cheered. It has been a full month and a half since they left Wagezhuang, Shandong. Dysentery broke out in their hometown, and all ten rooms were empty. Zhang Wangchao's mother and Wu Ruikun's father could not resist the torment of the plague and passed away. Soon, there was another locust plague in their hometown, and all the crops were eaten. In order to survive, Zhang Wangchao and Wu Ruikun had to go to Guandong together. When they left home, they didn't have much luggage. Halfway through, they were snatched away by bandits, so the two of them had to work part-time while rushing to Kanto.
