About This Novel

"The Haunted House" is considered one of the literary horror novels of the 20th century. It was shortlisted for the 1960 National Book Award and was selected as one of the 100 best novels of the 20th century by readers of Random House's "Modern Library". The Wall Street Journal commented that this novel "is one of the best haunted house stories ever written." The famous thriller writer Stephen King listed it as one of the best horror novels in the second half of the 20th century and wrote a long review for it. The novel was also adapted into movies twice, in 1963 and 1999.
