The Black Hand Reaching Out to the Naval Base
by Chen Yinfa
About This Novel
The spring of 1937 came belatedly, and it was still cold in March. In Wujiang County, northeast of Shanghai, the streets are as lively as usual. Early in the morning, Zhu Kun limped into a teahouse with a walking stick to drink tea. As soon as he sat down, a man came in from outside, walked directly opposite him, and asked, "Is there anyone sitting here?" Zhu Kun saw that this man was wearing a long gown and a gray hat, looking like a teacher. He shook his head and said, "There's no one to sit down. You can do whatever you want." The man took off his hat and nodded, then sat down and ordered tea. The two sat across from each other drinking tea and didn't speak to each other at first.
