About This Novel
"Old Things in the South of the City" is a collection of autobiographical short stories based on the author's life from seven to thirteen years old. Since its first publication in 1960, it has been reprinted many times and has become a "timeless" masterpiece. This book is specially produced for the purpose of extracurricular reading in primary and secondary schools. It is based on the 1983 typesetting edition of Taiwan Pure Literature Publishing House, and has been revised as necessary. Five beautiful essays by Lin Haiyin, including "The Secret Reading", are also selected and attached to the back of the book to allow readers to have a better understanding of the old Beijing written by Lin Haiyin. In addition, there is an "Introduction" at the front of the book and a "Knowledge Link" at the back to provide readers with necessary guidance and accumulation of knowledge.
