Burning Shanghai Hotel
by Chen Yinfa
About This Novel
Late one night in the summer of 1937, Cao Xiangjie received a call from captain Tang Hao that a fire broke out at the Shanghai Hotel on Tianjin Road. He immediately got up, hailed a rickshaw outside, and hurried to Tianjin Road. Cao Xiangjie was very confused. If there was a fire in a Shanghai hotel, he could just call the fire brigade. Why did the captain ask him to rush there? Could it be that the captain suspected someone of setting the fire? Hopefully this was just an accident, otherwise I'd have to be busy again. When we arrived at the scene, we found that the fire had been put out. The fire broke out on the sixth floor of the hotel, which is the guest department. Cao Xiangjie knew that captain Tang Hao was already there, so he quickly ran up the stairs. The six floors were a mess, but one of them was really burned down. Tang Hao and three policemen were already investigating. "What's going on, captain?" Cao Xiangjie asked.
