My Disappearing Shadow
by Gao Boyang
About This Novel
It had been quite a while since Abu's shadow disappeared, and he thought of those things, which might have finally soothed his uneasy mind. As a dancer, Abu's body is always freely switching between movement and stillness. After struggling for so many years, I finally got the lead role in the high-profile "Shadow Dance", but because of the disappearance of my own shadow, I fell into an unprecedented dilemma. The light penetrated the body without any doubt, and he on the curtain became transparent. It was not just the loss of his job that made Abu collapse. The series of chain reactions that followed also caused a rift between him and his fiancée who was far abroad. Abu doesn't want to admit that the relationship between the two is so fragile. Maybe there is an unspeakable secret behind it... Troubled by Abu, he begins to suffer from insomnia and hallucinations, and becomes as lost as a walking zombie. Abu wants to find out what's going on. There are three women surrounding him, one is his fiancée who is hiding from him, one is the dance director who is hiding from him, and the other is a strange woman who he met when he was seriously ill and sought medical treatment, who specializes in divination by tarot cards. The strange woman made a blind mistake and actually helped Abu find the shadow. It's just that the shadow is not easy to control. Perhaps the shadow is also trying to trace its origin and retrieve a memory that has been erased from it. In the chaotic interweaving of these three women, Abu gradually discovers a confusing past, involving three murders, as well as his unbearable childhood... Abu wants to retrieve the disappeared shadow and find out when and where the dead figure in the nightmare originated.
