About This Novel

The eight years of the reign of Mingzong Li Siyuan of the Later Tang Dynasty were praised as "moderately prosperous", which was especially rare in the troubled times of the Five Dynasties. As a biography of Li Siyuan, this book is dedicated to interpreting Li Siyuan's political achievements based on basic historical facts. The structure is based on chronology and topics: the first and second chapters describe Mingzong's growth background and path to kingship; the third and fourth chapters are based on chronology and emphasize the political evolution process during the eight years of Mingzong's rule; the fifth and sixth chapters adopt a topical structure. Different from previous similar works that mainly emphasize the influence of Han political culture on Shatuo, this book pays more attention to the political legacy left by Shatuo to later generations of China.
