About This Novel
"Two Ugly Monsters" is located on the edge of the small square of Saint-Germain. Among thousands of Parisian cafes, it has been featured in Paris guide books in various languages because it is a famous writer's cafe on the Left Bank. The Paris literary circle even established a literary award here, also called "Two Ugly Monsters". In fact, those two ugly monsters were the two wooden statues in the shop, two Chinese men with sharp mouths and monkey cheeks, wearing Qing Dynasty clothes and growing treacherous mustaches. In the past, many writers and artists often went there to meet friends, read, talk and write. Geniuses who had not become famous sold their most important famous works to publishers here for pennies on the dollar.
