Blood-stained Wujiang River
by Assistant To The Village Chief
About This Novel
In October 1938, the Japanese army captured Wuhan and launched an attack on the National Government of Chongqing. As the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River was a natural hazard and heavily guarded, the Japanese army changed its strategy and began to launch large-scale air raids on Chongqing. The Communist Party launched a nationwide resistance war behind enemy lines. The Japanese army's front was stretched and supplies were insufficient, and they were caught in a dilemma. The Third Division of the Japanese Army in Wuhan led its troops southward to the vast and sparsely populated Wuling Mountains (now southeast of Chongqing) at the junction of Hubei, Hunan, and Sichuan provinces, in an attempt to occupy Wujiang River and then approach Chongqing in the west. Wujiang River has become a strategic golden artery.
