About This Novel
The novel captures the daily lives of nine households in a courtyard under the Bell and Drum Tower in Beijing from 5 a. M. To 5 p. M. On December 12, 1982. It runs through the changes experienced by thirty or forty characters over the past few decades, and describes the historical accumulation of ancient Beijing and the realistic changes in the 1980s, allowing us to hear the footsteps of the reform era.
