Counterattack on Yichang (non-fiction)
by Chen Hongcan
About This Novel
In early 1941, Japan took advantage of the fact that Britain and the United States were busy dealing with the war in Europe and actively sought to advance southward. The contradiction between Japan and Britain and the United States became increasingly acute. The United States also hopes to use China's war of resistance to delay and consume Japan, so it has strengthened its assistance to China. Japan strongly feels that the war it is waging in the Far East is actually targeting China, the Soviet Union, the United States, and Britain. Therefore, dealing with the China issue must be comprehensively considered with the resolution of the southern issue and the northern issue and make long-term plans. Therefore, the Japanese Army General Staff Headquarters formulated the "Guidance Outline for the Long-term War in Greater East Asia" and the "Guidance Plan for Long-term Operations against China." These two documents were approved at the headquarters meeting on January 16, 1941, and were adjudicated by the Emperor at the Imperial Council.
