About This Novel

In this "new history", Norman Ohler shows us a Third Reich filled with drugs. On the eve of World War II, Germany transformed into a pharmaceutical giant, with companies like Merck and Bayer churning out cocaine, opiates and, of course, most importantly, methamphetamine. Almost everyone in Germany - from housewives, to millions of frontline soldiers, to the Nazi high command, and especially Hitler himself - were users. Drugs alone cannot explain the Nazis' toxic racial theories and the major events of World War II, but our understanding of the Third Reich is incomplete without considering them.
