About This Novel
Su Tong's novella collection, among which "Women's Lives" was adapted into a film and television drama. The TV series version of "The Flowers Bloomed Then" starred Zhang Jiayi, Dong Jie, Wang Lin, Zhang Luyi, Chen Xiaoyi, and Xi Meijuan; the movie version of "Jasmine Blooms" won the Gold Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival. After Xian's father passed away, Huilong Photo Studio was run by Xian and her mother. Xian was only eighteen years old that year and had just graduated from a girls' high school. She didn't understand the ins and outs of the photography business and wasn't interested in it. Xian watched helplessly as her family's property collapsed and she was helpless. One day when she was dressing up and getting ready to go to the cinema to watch a Hollywood movie, her mother blocked her on the stairs and said, "Remember, this is the last movie. The teacher said that there is a kind of feminine quality in Su Tong's writing. This is indeed the case. Writing about the plight of women from a female perspective in a patriarchal society has another flavor.
After watching Another Woman's Life, I felt inexplicably depressed and even a little scared. Shaozhen's thoughts cannot be called old-fashioned or traditional. I think it is a bit abnormal, that is, perverted. She does not trust others, especially men. It seems that she has many forbidden areas that do not allow the outside world to approach.
