About This Novel
This city has light and shadow. Under the light and shadow are human laws; in the shadow are their rules. Old objects will suddenly demand their lives, there will be an extra door in a deserted alley that should not exist, and ancient sacrifices by the river will always bring along living people... These are not weird stories, they are broken "rules". They call me "the collector." Not a policeman, not a mage. My job is to "put a stop to" things that break the rules. There is only one admonition passed down from the master: "Act according to the rules and pay the price yourself." What he used was a yellowed "Book of Hundreds of Taboos" and the experience gained from thirty years of Yangshou. Over the years, I have collected antiques from mourners, given them to water ghosts under bridges, and persuaded innocent souls looking for a substitute. The price is a loss of ten years of life and a loss of emotions and desires. It wasn't until I was "packing away" an unknown murderous corpse that I found in his hands the cigarette pouch and pot that had never left my master the year he disappeared. --On the last page of "Hundred Taboos", new words in blood suddenly appeared: "In the next file, accept yourself."
