About This Novel

The 2010 French Academy Novel Grand Prix work was inspired by a social news story and was reported by many Japanese newspapers, including the Asahi Shimbun in May 2008. It tells the story of a Japanese man in his 50s and a female intruder. Mr. Shimura is an ordinary man who lives a regular life alone. However, starting from one day, he gradually discovered some small changes: the food in his refrigerator was slowly disappearing, and some items were moved very slightly when he was not at home... So he decided to install a camera at home so that he could monitor the situation at home from the weather station where he worked, and he discovered that a woman actually lived in one of his closets. This woman has no family and no fixed residence. Without his knowledge, she has been sharing his house with him for several months...
