About This Novel
The story of "Wicked" takes place in the land of Oz before Dorothy arrives. Here, animals speak and the Great Wizard exercises a repressive dictatorship. The protagonist of the story is named Elphaba. She was born with green skin. She was discriminated against and excluded, but she was smart, determined and compassionate. In order to help the persecuted animals, she joined the movement to resist totalitarianism without hesitation. No matter what misfortune she encountered, she would stand up again and face the dangerous world of Oz. Misunderstood by the world, she never defended herself, and eventually became the well-known Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz".
