About This Novel
The narrative poem "Mad Orlando", also known as "Mad Roland", is a work imitating the medieval legend, a legend with an epic pattern. It follows Boyardo's long poem "Roland in Love". The story is based on the war between Charlemagne and the Saracens. It describes the love of Charlemagne's knight Roland for Princess Angelica of Cathay and the love between Ruggiero and Bradamanti. It cleverly weaves the love and adventure experiences of other knights and the stories of hundreds of characters (kings, monks, demons, fairies, etc.), Integrating narrative and lyrical, tragic and comic elements. This book is Calvino's unique interpretation of "Crazy Orlando". It is a concise and passionate novel that is interspersed with highlights of the original poem.
