When Winesty Martin, a PhD student in anthropology from Yale, moved to the Upper East Side with her husband and their children, she had no idea what the rules of survival were. Starting from looking for an apartment, buying a house in a school district, and applying for a private school for her children, she started an arduous "war" that was no less intense than running for the U. S. President. This "war" lasted for six years. In order to allow her children to quickly jump into class, she overcame all difficulties and bought a Hermès Birkin bag.
